Giving Thanks

I'm thankful for having my child to the right girl and the best girl in the world and mostly in my life. She has been the best thing that has happened to me since I was 13 years old. I had my son when I was 15 and she was 17.

I hope to go home in time for my second child to be born to the same girl. I'm now 18 and she is 20. She was ready and so am I to have this major responsibility in my life. It is time for me to grow up.

I'm doing everything asked of me now and up until the day I pass so that I can show my kids what not to end up like when they are my age. CR

I am thankful for the talent that God gave me and the life which He has placed me with and hope for my freedom soon and that when I get out I get a place in a house of my own and after a little bit become famous in rapping, but most important I hope my family is and stays in good health. I am working towards better things such as making something out of my life and working very hard. JM

Celebrate Thanksgiving Every Day

Celebrate Thanksgiving every day. Take time to count what you have, not what you have not…and when all is lost, you have the gift of hope.

What are you thankful for?
What do you hope for?
What are you doing to make your hopes reality?

I am thankful for having a good family. I am thankful for having a very artistic art teacher. I am thankful for having a person to look up to. I am thankful for having such a perfect pastor. I am thankful for the help that I receive. I am thankful for having a beautiful family. I hope to stay out of placement and never ever get locked back up again. I hope that I become then best NFL or NBA player to ever live. I hope for the best things that can ever happen to me. I hope to go home in March and go to church and I will pray for all of my teachers. I will make my hopes come real by accepting "NO" for an answer, apologizing for the things that I have done wrong. I also will talk about my feelings and my problems instead of holding them in. I also will stop getting restrained and stop threatening my staff and my peers. I also will successfully complete my program and go back to my community where I belong. LW

I'm thankful for having a life and a family and I hope to be successful in life so I can have a job along with money to help my family and I'm not faking it to make it in life. It's real to me, like the way I walk and talk, the way I do everything. I'm seeking help, looking for a job and helping others to do the same. AC

Political Awareness

Why is it important to be politically aware and prepared to vote?

It is important to vote because you should be able to say who you want in charge and be able to say what goes on in your economy. It is also important to be prepared to vote that way so you know why and what you are voting for. RW

Media Matters

This week the blog topic is elections. The class is discussing the Hip Hop Summit Action Network which "seeks to foster initiatives amied at engaging the Hip-Hop generation in community development issues related to equal access to high quality public education and literacy, freedom of speech, voter education, economic advancement, and youth leadership development." The first Hip-Hop summit in 2001 was themed "Taking Back Responsibility."

I shared the streaming video Vote! from Media Matters by using an LCD projector connected to my computer. The question the students are to respond to is: Why is it important to be politically aware and prepared to vote?

Talking, Writing, Body Language

It is very important for me to communicate. If I couldn't communicate, then I wouldn't be able to express my feelings or anything else. If I couldn't do that I would always be angry. I need to be able to communicate to get my thoughts out also. Getting your thoughts out is very important because if you don't, nobody will ever know how you feel. I really only use three ways to communicate: talking, writing and body language. I always talk and write, but hardly ever use body language. One way I use body language and facial expressions is when I am mad or someone won't get what I am trying to say then I roll my eyes. I am glad we communicate the way we do. HZ
